Local Designer gives back to Minneapolis charities by creating posters

Minneapolis, MN – Local artist and designer Kris Heuer was so moved by the news of a friend’s Mother’s diagnosis with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), that he felt something should be done to create awareness about the disease. His Art-A-Whirl fund-raising event, Charitable Awesomeness, is the result.

Charitable Awesomeness is a fundraiser and art sale on the first evening of Art-A-Whirl, May 20, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and will be held in the Waterbury Building at ishbudesign Studio in Northeast Minneapolis. Proceeds from this event will benefit local charities The ALS Association of Minnesota, the Piper Breast Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Pet Project Rescue. Three organizations whose programs Mr. Heuer felt deserving of attention.

At the center of the event are three limited edition screen print posters; one benefiting each charity.

Mr. Heuer will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the poster sales back to the respective charities for specific programs. Money directed to The ALS Association of Minnesota will be donated to the Durable Medical Equipment Loan Pool, a program that provides free medical equipment to persons with ALS, in need. Money directed to the Piper Breast Center will be donated to the Piper Breast Center Patient Assistance Fund, a program that provides financial assistance to cancer patients who are unable to pay day-to-day expenses on top of their medical treatment. Money directed to Pet Project Rescue will be donated to the Lukas Project, an end-of-life hospice program that will provide homes to dogs and cats who are terminally ill.

In addition to the poster sale, Mr. Heuer has teamed up with the other artists exhibiting in his studio and the three organizations to put on a silent auction that will run the duration of the event. Just like the poster sales, 100% of the proceeds from the silent auction will be divided equally among the three organizations.

Exhibiting artists Mark Stoehr and Graham John Petersburg have generously agreed to donate original artwork for the silent auction in addition to donations by the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Premier Publications, Atmosfere and other local businesses.

In addition to the artwork directly associated with the event, all exhibiting artists will have other work for sale. On the evening of the event, all exhibiting artists have agreed to donate 10% of their regular art sales from that evening to the charitable organization of their choice.

Ishbudesign Studio is located at 1121 Jackson Street Northeast, Minneapolis, MN 55413 in the distinctively red Waterbury Building. This event is free and open to the public.
